I am very new to gaming. Right now we own a game cube with two games...hahaha...
We own monkeyball and mario kart.
I almost bought a wii tonight...can anyone tell me if the wii is worth the money? Is it a good system for a family that is completely new to games?
Thanks...
Nice forum here by the way!

Thank you for your replies.
I have a pretty large family with an age span of toddler to teens...
my sons really love the racing games like mariokart and we have rented a few nascar racing games...(I think...hahaha...you all will really have to educate me so that I don't seem so ignorant anymore...LOL!).
I really want to surprise my children with a new game system because I am finding it very difficult to find games for the game cube right now...the stores are selling the used games, but they are not restocking them.
So...any help you all could give me will be great!
Anyway...I think this forum is such a great idea!
Thanks for welcoming me!
Kingpin...can you tell me why you recommend ps2 over the Wii? I am just curious as to the Pros and Cons...what about XBox360? Is that a good system? Right now...the money is set aside...so that isn't a problem...I just want to make a good investment...and the gamecube seems to be becoming obsolete ( sad to say huh?).

Alright SillyChick i think i have an answer, You want something for your family ranging from toddler to teens. Now, if you wanted something for YOURSELF then you should go PS3 or 360. But i would highly recomend the wii, as Mario Kart is coming out soon for it. Also, any Star Wars fans? The Force Unleased hits shelves soon. Also the Wii is a great for family play. You can create your only little person (mii) that interacts with certain games. The best part for your case, the Wii also plays Gamecube games AND is compatable with Gamecube controllers.

Yeah i have a PS2, Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Sega, Atari and that about it.. i have about 20 games for the PS2, about 15 for the 64, 8 for the Nintendo, 5 for the Super Nintendo, 25 for Sega, and about 10 for the Atari... its pretty fun
im planning on getting a PS3, instead of and 360 since i have all those PS2 Games that i could play on the PS3..

Ive gone totally off topic here...having children myself I would recommend starting out with something easy..get them the ps2 to practice on and get the wii for you and your hubby until the young uns get more adept with the playing of games

Ok...that makes the most sense...the fact that the controllers are compatable!!! I was looking at having to buy all new controllers. To be honest, that is the only thing that stopped me from buying the wii last night! We have four game cube controllers right now. I have a large family, so I would still need to buy some controllers, but not say...eight! hahahaha! ummm Zycor...I appreciate the advice on the ps2, but I think I am going to go with the Wii since Revan has said that the games and controllers are compatable....woohoo! Ok...I will let everyone know what the final decision is after I discuss it with my husband! Thanks again for the help...this is so much fun!!!

Hey before you do anything you need to know that not ALL games are compadible with the GC controller and Some only function WITH the Wii chucks, so you should get a few, but i believe that the Wii comes with a few Chucks anyway?

If anyones still interested in my oppinion, the Wii has a little for everybody and is a perfect multiplayer system. It has some serious experiences for experienced gamers like Smash Bros Brawl, Zelda, and Metroid, and fun experiences like Mario Kart and Wii Sports. It has effective internet capeabilities, and can play your Gamecube games. A PS2 is an affordable system if you want something for yourself, or you could grab an Arcade Edition Xbox 360, though the 360 is for more serious gamers exclusivly.

as it goes if you have teens youll want somthing you can get hardcore games on( my best suggestion would be the PS2 or 360) because if you get some hardcore games for your teens theyll be happy and you can still but toddler and kidergrade games for thse systems (much like Spongbob or somthing) heres the final word from the keyboards of Xombi
PS2 (teen games: Red faction 1 or 2, tony hawk,SoulCalibur3. Young games: Spongebob, spyro the dragon, or MANHUNT( lol just kidding dont get that get somthing age appropriate)
360(Teen: Halo3, Tony Hawk, Soulcalibur4, Need for speed Carbon. young: most the XBL arcade games (acsesable through the XBL Marketplace))

Most real gamers like a fun and challenging game with respectable technical specs. According to the massive following of the games I mentioned, including the worldwide tournament scene for Brawl, the games I mentioned are serious business.

Agreed, gameplay is really a major part of what I look for in a game I mean even though Super Mario Galaxy isn't hard or in possession of a compelling storyline... it's fun to play and it does get harder as you go on. Brawl does have a "large" competitive scene and I'm sorta in on it but it really doesn't have a whole lot of development yet so I still prefer ssbm. Are you competitive with either game mika? I'd love to play you sometime, I think Revan is tired of being uh... fourstocked by roy over and over and over, lol.

Hi All,
Hey Talk is cheap, has anyone thought about us actually playing a game against eachother. Let's not tell stories... We are gamers. Lets' create a game right here on gamers gettaway and play the game... Winner take all... Let's play.... So all... We are the creators of the game where do we begin? I look forward to your ideas as masters of the precreated game... I challenge you... Let's create!!!!!!

umm...first of all we need an idea, engine, programmer, artist, storyboard person, sound and audio, character design... yeah then we can get back you on that were a pool of ideas, as for engine we can use the basic ones hell even a mod variant of scource isnt hard, consept art is easy, and pixels are even easyer, story is in the hands of those who come up with initial idea, and audio is as simple as a good recording mic ( i for instance have a studio mic for my music) if we came together with a common idea and worked out the rest a game made by gamers gettaway could be fully finalized and finished within a few years and hell is we use a scource mod or somthing sell the rights and game to VALVe getting good site publicity and upping our budget (and if we do the first one right with out blowing much cash we can earn about 1000 each with a 10 man team( by selling game rights to the studio if we use scource and if we start from scratch shine it up and reliese it as an indipendant full retail game) (i dont remember half the stuff i typed so ill have to re read it)

So for Characters.. We have a few stories starting with no common thread. Zycor has developed a heinous dog stabbing troll, and Ace has created a confused war hero... I have no idea how to bring these 2 stories together... I thought the confused war hero could start hunting trolls in a war zone. Perhaps the dog is not dead and becomes becomes the undead and ends morphing into some underworld creature that the confused war hero goes after to kill but has to find the weapon that takes it down.... OR? Either way Zombie is right... we can put this together.... anybody remember the Blair Witch Project... and who thought the makers of that movie would make a sequel.... Keep the stories coming that's where it begins....

The Blair Witch Project came out in like 1999, surely your parents didn't let ya watch it back then did they? I had forgot about the sequel, I was only able to watch the both of them a couple of years ago and then I had to watch them with my dad so I wouldn't get to scared....yea right!!!!!!!

My point is that it was a movie prepared by Amateurs. They didn't have any fancy equipment. All they had was their Walmart video cams and an idea. If they can be so successful with such a lame story line.... Oh Hell-O! We can do better!
