Hey here is a cool thing i found about them it helps me so much so Enjoy! number 1 Dr. Mario Since he's a clone of Mario, Dr. Mario shares Mario's status as perhaps the most balanced character in Super Smash Bros. Melee. If you can craft your smash skills around his then you are truly one your way to being a pro. It's fair to say that Dr. Mario is the character for all players, as he is fully balanced with projectiles, a deflection move, and plenty of strong attacks. Not only that but he's very quick, and unlike his brother Luigi has better traction when it comes to navigating the ground's surface. His main smash attacks are fairly self-explanatory. The most powerful of them being his Meteor Smash. It's his Smash+A (right or left) attack while grounded and it delivers a fiery blow, but there is a catch. As opposed to Mario, the effectiveness of the attack decreases the farther away you get from opponents. So, to get the biggest bang for you're buck you'll actually want to be standing right next to your opponent. Next in line is his sweeping leg kick (Down+A, smash). This will trip foes in a 360 degree radius, and when fully charged it will send them sky high. Dr. Mario has a few attacks to take advantage of, naturally. With a set of powerful air attacks you'll want spend your time above ground level. We've found that Dr. Mario's trampoline like downward throw can be quite tricky. Just grab an opponent (R/L+A or Z) and then press down on the control stick afterwards. This will bounce them off of the ground like a rubber ball, placing them just above you. Unless you're playing another pro who knows what to expect this will set them up nicely for your Up+A smash uppercut. If they are smart, they'll be forced to evade you, and even then you can take advantage of your strong air attacks. So use this throw when you're on the offensive. Be sure to experiment with the Dr. Tornado move when facing multiple opponents as it makes players fly off in different directions. For defense, Dr. Mario can perform his version of the cape attack -- called Super Sheet. Performed by pressing Up + B, it can be used in a two-fold manner. Firstly, Dr. Mario can use it to reflect projectile attacks such as fireballs, missiles and others back at opponents. Also he can use the cape to spin enemies around if they attempt a certain smash attack. And, did you know that the Super Sheet can help Dr. Mario fly? It can in fact be used as a third link in a chain of four jumps. First double jump, than press Right/Left+B, and finally use Up+B for his coin jump. This will be extremely useful when making your way back to the stage, as if anything throws a projectile at you, it can easily be deflected in the middle of your jumping sequence. Very powerful indeed. This move also allows Dr. Mario to turn himself in another direction in midair. Few other players can turn themselves around and still perform an attack. Explore the Super Sheet attack, as it's probably Dr. Mario's best. Another very effective attack is the Super Jump Punch. Attack and defensive move in one, this maneuver gets Dr. Mario back on stage and punches any opposition out of the way. Because of the coins that fly into the air when you attack, the Jump Punch never fails to spread mayhem in a battle. Follow up an upward throw with this attack and you'll be sure to cause some confusion. Dr. Mario's projectile attack, the Megavitamins, is a bit more powerful than Mario's Fireballs, but it remains too weak in the thick of battle to make a difference. However, it's a great way to cause damage from a safe place when more than two players are going at it. It's also very handy if you want to blow up a bomb or mine. So, to get the biggest bang for you're buck you'll actually want to be standing about two character's (non-Bowser size, of course) distance between you. If you're right next to your opponent the attack is only mediocre. Next in line is his sweeping leg kick (Down+A, smash). This will trip foes in a 360 degree radius, and when fully charged it will send them sky high.
Mario has a few attacks to take advantage of, naturally. With a set of powerful air attacks you'll want spend your time above ground level. For defense Mario has been given the all-important cape he loved so much in Super Mario World. It's useful for deflecting projectiles such as Samus' missiles. But, did you know it can help Mario fly? As one of the Super Mario Bros., one would assume Luigi to be a clone of his brother Mario. However, if you take enough time to explore his move list you'll quickly find he has several differences and a few tricks up his sleeve too. When you first take hold of Luigi, you'll notice that controlling him just feels different than controlling Mario. This is due to the fact that he can jump higher than his brother and also tends to slip and slide a little more -- so be careful around the edges. His third uppercut jump goes straight up, so if you're facing the wrong direction or too far off the ledge you'll fall into the oblivion.
The moves that Luigi does share with Mario are balanced differently. Luigi's smash uppercut (Up+A), for instance delivers a more powerful blow. Being one of Luigi's most effective attacks it comes highly recommended. Use it as much as possible -- when opponents are falling from above, in close quarters, etc. Additionally, another very strong attack is Luigi's 360-degree leg sweep, a Down+A smash attack. This is also slightly stronger than Mario's, and because it hits in a full circle is a perfect way to get opponents off of your back. A less powerful but faster moving alternative is the Luigi Cyclone, which lets you give your opponents a taste of life from tornado alley. A two-part attack, you'll find the initial spin is not as powerful as the second more powerful punch, and you are not able to float nearly as high as Mario can by tapping the B-button repeatedly. So, if you decide to use the Luigi Cyclone make sure you're in close enough proximity.
More importantly, Luigi has a few wild moves his brother would probably never consider using. New to Smash Bros. is the Green Missile. Luigi propels himself across the screen like a rocket or, more appropriately, missile. The move is smash attack, performed by pressing Left or Right+B, depending on the direction you want to go. By holding down the B-button you can charge-up and soar into opponents, setting them ablaze upon impact with a harsh blow. The game indicates that one out of every eight times the Luigi Missile will "misfire," sending him forward at full force regardless of a charge-up. This can work both for and against you, as if you overshoot you will rocket straight to your death. This brings up an important point. The Green Missile can be used defensively, as a recovering move. Where you would most often attempt to triple jump your way back to the platform, the Green Missile is a resourceful alternative. If you're knocked high enough try using it as a substitute for his third jump.
Also one of Luigi's unique attacks is his somewhat sissy-like, no-look rolling fists of fury. Where Mario will slide feet-first into opponents, Luigi's running dash has him frantically throwing his fists into opponents faces. It's a fairly strong attack, but is almost more comical than anything else. Until you get good at dodging and rolling away from opponents with Luigi, it's probably a better idea to jump into big brawls instead of running into them with this attack, as it leaves you open for attack for a brief second. We've found that Luigi's simpler air attacks such as his downward kick (Down+A in air) and heel kick (A in air) are both very effective, and quite strong too.
One of his best and most damaging attacks is his Super Uppercut. You have to be very close to your opponent, touching them in fact, to use it. If performed correctly it will send them sky high in a ball of fire. If you miss, though, you'll be humiliated by its weakness of roughly one damage point. So use it in moderation. As a final note, you will notice that his fireball floats horizontally and does not bounce off of the ground like Mario's. We've found that it's not quite as handy as Mario's, but is equally powerful when you're standing just to the side of your foes. All things considered, though, Luigi is a great character with plenty of crafty moves. Be sure to give him a try.

The ultimate bad guy from the Mario Bros. series finally makes his debut as a playable fighting game character, and despite his size, he is more than up to the task. Bowser is pretty much Donkey Kong's counterpart as far as speed goes, but his added size gives him greater reach and an added advantage in group brawls. His moves are devastating. He can breathe fire, he can squish opponents by falling on them, and he can spin on his shell, damaging everything around him with his spiky thorns.
The key to winning with Bowser is to emphasize his powerful spin attacks when fighting against more than one opponent. Given his lack of a vertical recovery jump, it's advisable to stay in the center of the stages and fight on the highest platforms. Stay grounded and force your opponents into corners, then fry them with Fire Breath, or slash/gnaw at them. Close contact fighting is definitely Bowser's strong point. If you want to be an effective Bowser fighter you're going to want to explore the best ways to get Bowser into the action.
Like most other characters he has a running dash attack that will knock foes up into the air, but due to his slow nature most players will see it coming. We advise you don't attempt to use it too often from far away. An easier way to get into the middle of the action is to use his Down+B Bowser Air Bomb attack. Like Yoshi's "butt stomp" it delivers a fast and powerful blow to opponents in its path and is also puts you into the center of the action. Once there, there are a few very effective attacks you should use. If there are a lot of foes in close proximity the Down+A smash spin attack will send players flying in several directions. However, if the opportunity arises Bowser's smash Head Butt is also very mighty.
You'll note that Bowser is without a true uppercut. Instead he has a shell hop of sorts, where he propels his spiny back at opponents above him. Whenever you see opponents falling from above you, charge your Up+A smash attack. At high percentages it will send them reeling to KO. Also, unlike some of the other players Bowser has some fairly strong throws. If you're using him at the suggested close range you should also try to pull off a number of throws. Namely where he throws the characters above or below him, thus keeping your opponent close to you.
Bowser also has a unique Forward+B smash attack. At a distance he will lash out at foes with his sharp claws, but when at a close range he actually grabs opponents. Continue to press the B-button and he will gnaw on enemy's heads. Even more importantly, though, you can perform a whole other set of throws during this grapple. So get in close and don't relent. If you ever do need to take a break from the action roll out by blocking (R/L) and pressing left or right. You can often trick foes by rolling around them and then breathing fire immediately because your in close range.

We already know what you're thinking: Princess Peach is a girl and is probably a mediocre character. That statement couldn't be further from the truth. Princess Peach is one of the more strongly weighted characters in Super Smash Bros. Melee. It's impossible to be downright cheap with her because her moves are not overpowered and she is light so she can easily be smashed far from the stage. She compensates for this bullying by taking advantage of her frilly dress, where she can float horizontally for long distances, and if she pulls out her parasol she can float slowly downward. Certainly her ability to make it back to the platform is unprecedented and rivals even that of Kirby.
If you take the time to explore Peach's treasure chest of well-balanced attacks you will be well rewarded. Peach masters will literally wipe the floor with opponents who let their defenses down for even a moment. What makes Peach so great? It's her speed in combination with consistency. One of her most powerful and useful attacks is without a doubt her Dash+A attack. As she plows into opponents with the palms of her hands it sends them almost directly above her. Because she is so agile she can actually juggle opponents this way. It's a devastating chain of attacks that will leave opponents feeling helpless. It definitely takes a lot of practice, though, because your timing has to be perfect. Additionally, this attack is the perfect way for starting any combo. One of Peach's hardest-to-read attacks is her Dress Spin Smash (Down+A, smash). It swings in 360 degrees and reaches a fair radius surrounding her. If you use her dash attack with this dress spin you'll find it is a perfect compliment to it. It is also very useful for anytime foes fall from above you, especially since it can be charged. Her smash uppercut is also very powerful and a good way to mix up attacks. Any opponent who will fall onto her fist is asking for it.
One of our favorite smash attacks of her is her Forward+A smash. She will randomly pull out a golf club, tennis racket, and a frying pan, which is the most powerful of the three. Use these when opponents are trying to jump back onto the stage from the outer edges. What's interesting is that Peach's air attacks are almost as powerful as her ground attacks, the only difference being they can't be charged. So fighting above the platforms is definitely one of her strong points and it's where players will want to strike out most. Even more intriguing is Peach's double jump. Her dress gives her the ability to hover and subsequently float horizontally. Because it is a magical stunt of sorts it can only be used once in mid-air. The reason for this is of course because she would be far too powerful if she could float horizontally twice. Still, this comes in handy while over the stage. You can literally float in from across the stage and perform not one, not two, but a series of air attacks without dropping to the ground. It leaves you quite vulnerable, but can come in handy for, say, hovering off the stage hitting someone, and hovering back in.
Lastly, you'll want to explore Peach's special B-button attacks. Like Link, she can pull out toss-able white radishes which are great for keeping an opponent off the stage as they try to jump back. They are also perfect for disorienting foes. Toss one away and it will knock them back, but even better you can actually catch the radish again and toss it a few times before it disappears! Very handy indeed. Occasionally, Peach will pull up a Mr. Saturn or Bob-omb. If you get the bomb watch out, but also use it wisely as it's practically a free KO for you. Also, note that depending on the face type the radishes do a different amount of damage. So you never know what you're going to pull up, but use it as much as possible. Look for the rare "Old Turnip." Unlike the more prolific other turnips you usually get, the Old Turnip causes more than four times as much damage. Here's the breakdown:
* Standard Turnip - 58% chance of appearance, 8% damage * Bored/Sick Turnip - 12% chance, 8% damage * Confused/Surprised Turnip - 9% chance, 8% damage * Sleepy Turnip - 6% chance, 8% damage * Happy Turnip - 6% chance, 8% damage * Winking Turnip - 4% chance, 12% damage * Content Turnip - 3% chance, 18-20% damage * Old Turnip - 1% chance, 34-38% damage * Bob-omb - 1% chance, 35% damage * Mr. Saturn - 1% chance, 7-11% damage
Next on the list is her Toad attack, performed by simply pressing B. It's actually a counter attack and can be used for a great many things. It's most useful for countering smash attacks or item throws. It takes a perfect amount of timing, but if pulled off correctly your opponent will be bludgeoned with damaging spores from Toad. A foes powerful attacks can quickly because their weakness. So if you see someone charging up a smash attack, go ahead and walk right up to them and pull out toad. They will be very surprised and very angry. You can even use this in the air! Toad is one of her most valuable tools, it just takes some getting used to. Finally is her parasol, performed by pressing Up+B. It's not over-powerful but should almost always be used when someone is above you if you think they won't fall for a smash attack. When opened it also protects you from many overhead attacks. It's also very useful for floating back to the platform, of course.
All in all, Peach should be considered. We highly recommend her to smash specialists. We think you'll find her very much to you're liking, and you boys will find that this hot little number "kicks high." Meow. Naturally, though, her special B attacks are her strongest moves.

Yoshi is definitely one of the stronger characters in the Super Smash Bros. Melee cast. Truly, it's his gigantic melon and whip-like tail that allow him to deal out so much damage. That said, you'll want to use his head a lot. Dashing toward a foe and hitting the A-button will result in a head-butt that's very useful for charging into battle. But, the truth be told, Yoshi is a much better distance fighter. That is, not in the sense of throwing projectiles, but more so starting an attack from afar. For instance Yoshi's butt-stomp (Down+B in midair) is considered very cheap, but no one can deny it's one of Yoshi's most effective attacks. Just line up your target, run, jump, and slam your green rear-end down upon them.
Though, we don't suggest being so cheap all the time. There's a slight delay when you hit the ground, so you'll want to resort to other moves or you'll leave yourself vulnerable a lot. His head is a definite resource for his smash attacks. His Forward/Backward + A and Up+A smash attacks are especially powerful. If someone is knocked off of the edge, charge up his forward smash to keep slamming them back towards oblivion. You can also try to use your Up+B egg toss to hit them while they jump back to the platform, but it's very tricky to use. The egg is controlled with the analog stick and can be tossed farther by holding down the B-button longer. It definitely takes a lot of practice.
Yoshi can be very powerful in the air as well. Just using his Forward+A smash attack in midair is a good way to grab some KOs. Interestingly his bulbous feet can be used to deal out a great deal of damage, more so than any of his other moves. Of course, it takes extremely precise timing. If you can jump into a player as they fall from above and activate Yoshi's bicycle kick (Down+A) you could deal out as much as 40% damage. We suggest relying on his main smash attacks, though. His tail whip, for example, is a good way to clear a 360 radius around you.

Donkey Kong is actually a lot faster than he looks. Unlike Bowser, DK strikes a balance between body size and agility for a powerful overall package. Most players will find that because of his large size, DK isn't always ideal when going up against multiple (human) players, but he can be devastating when used in a one-on-one bout or when going up against a large number of computer opponents.
First, a word of caution. Unlike most other Super Smash Bros. Melee combatants, Donkey Kong lacks a vertical recovery move. This means that if he falls deep into a pit, chances are he won't make it out. This means that you will have to be very quick with your reactions when you get knocked off. DK can perform a double jump followed by his Spinning Kong (up+B) recovery move -- but the movement of the latter is mostly horizontal. It's an easy rule of thumb is to fight on the higher platforms when playing with Kong. For example, on Hyrule Castle DK can easily get back on solid ground if he gets knocked off to the left from the top floor, but it gets a whole lot more difficult if you get thrown off the lower cave portion of the level.
Donkey Kong's most powerful attack is the Giant Punch -- if you charge it, which is an essential technique for successful DK players. Hit B to charge the move (DK will swing his arm), then hit B again to cause between 10 and 30 damage. You can stop charging the punch by pressing Z, L or R. Any energy you have built up will be preserved or utilized when you strike. You can also combine this move with DK's Headbutt move (right/left+B). The latter will drive an opponent into the ground and give you ample time to set up a second attack a moment later. The Giant Punch works nicely as a follow-up move, but if you're having problems with the timing you may want to just continue with a Hand Slap instead. Opponents that are stuck in the ground actually receive damage while they're still stuck, so slap away.
Hand Slap, which is performed by hitting down and B is one of the most annoying and cheesy moves in the game, but it's an essential DK technique when facing multiple enemies. As a matter of fact, it's indispensable if you're trying to beat all the Multi-Man Melee modes or Event Matches. Any battle that features multiple opponents dropping from the top is easily won by planting DK in a safe spot and continuously pounding the ground with the Hand Slap move. It may not be the most elegant solution, but it works.
Another unique technique is Donkey Kong's ability to grab opponents and carry them around. Unlike the other SSBM fighters, DK isn't forced to stand still after he grabs someone. While he can't hold on to a foe very long, it's often long enough to lob the unfortunately lad off the edge or right into a mine or bomb. If you ever get picked up by DK, remember that you can increase your chance of escape by rapidly moving your control stick.
If you get attacked by multiple opponents, remember that DK has several attacks that cause damage to both sides at the same time. Spinning Kong works great to escape from a crowded fight, although it doesn't cause much damage. The Two-Handed Slam (down and A) is a great choice if you want to cause more pain in two directions. You can even charge it as a smash move. DK also has a two-handed uppercut slap move (up+A). This move works particularly well if you throw someone into the air or if you're standing underneath a platform with an opponent. Thanks to DK's size and long reach, you can often smash someone off a platform above you with the Two-Handed Clap.

Captain Falcon is one of the fastest characters in Smash Bros. Melee and is definitely much quicker than his clone, Ganondorf. One would think that his light weight would mean he has less powerful attacks, but that's not true in the least. Also, due to his lighter state he's a bit easier to knock off of the screen. He is the second fastest character in SSBM, only falling behind to Fox. This makes him very agile and is what you need to take advantage of most.
Falcon is truly a great character in SSB Melee (despite his flamboyance) simply because he's so well balanced. Each and everyone of Falcon's moves has a potent effects. His main smash attack, (Forward/Backward + A), the Falcon Elbow, is very powerful whether charged up or not. Use this as all opportune times. You can really grab some easy KOs in that way. Equally powerful, in fact one of his most powerful attacks, is his double high kick. By charging Falcon's Up+A smash attack you can deliver a considerable amount of damage. If you get surrounded by characters, remember he has a double sweep Down+A smash attack. It will hit on both sides of him with a lot of force, so it comes in handy if you've got foes coming from both sides.
What would Captain Falcon be without his Falcon Punch, though? Simply tap the B-button to begin his most powerful attack. The problem is, the move takes a while to charge and he alarms everyone by yelling out its name. That said, you'll need to be quite tricky yourself. Sneaking up behind someone in a four-player match is doable, but you may as well work on some better tactics. Try starting it while in midair, so he's actually punching just as he hits the ground. It leaves you vulnerable, but it's the best way to fool your opponents. And, remember, that the Falcon Punch is less effective the farther away he is from them. Try to use it when you're in direct contact with your opponent.
One of Falcon's most strategic attacks, though, is his Right+B flaming uppercut. It sends players directly above him and this can be used for several things. Depending on their height, you'll want to use different moves. For someone who has little height, use his double high kick. However, if you have enough time try lining up his Up+B Falcon Dive. He sends foes exploding out from him for fairly considerable damage. This is also his third recovery jump. So, depending on your angle you can actually grab someone before you even make it back to the stage. The move can be used repeatedly, one after the other, and actually sends Falcon higher than his opponent. So it's handy all around.
Another interesting fact about Falcon is that when he uses the Star Rod, it fires four stars at once. It's more powerful than a normal charge up, but if you're too close you can actually miss hitting opponents. In truth the Star Rod is much more effective when slammed upon someone's head.
Our best tip we can give you is just to use Falcon's balance. He's really powerful in midair as well on the ground, so be very offensive and use his speed to dodge attacks. You could actually benefit most from running in and out of battle repeatedly. Oh, and if you haven't noticed his taunt (D-pad up) is incredibly lame and annoying. If you do choose to use Falcon, use the taunt often. Even better, get together with a friend for Team Falcon and enrage your opponents. Works like a charm.
